چکیده

Negative differential conductance in metal/amorphous nitrogenated carbon a-CNx /Si structures is demonstrated at room temperature. These metal-insulator-semiconductor tunnel diodes are fabricated by optimizing the tunnel barrier at the a-CNx /Si junction through the control of the band gap and nitrogen doping level in carbon where this a-C layer acts as a semi-insulator. A small electron tunneling effective mass of about 0.06 times the free electron mass, a coherence length of 10 nm in these thin a-CNx layers and a low interface trap density suggest fast device operation similar to classical tunnel diodes. © 2007 American Institute of Physics. Modeling of carbon monoxide dispersion around the urban tunnel portals

The aim of this study is to investigate the problems caused by discharge of polluted air from tunnels into the environment with a specific focus on residential areas. In city tunnels, portal or stacks, pollutant management is a big challenge. Nowadays, air quality management, particularly in urban tunnels, is considered as a part of the ventilation system design. The goal is to see the environm...

Demonstration of Capability of Water Flux Measurement in a Scramjet Combustor Using Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Tomography and Stereoscopic Piv

Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Tomography (TDLAT) is a non-intrusive measurement technique for determining two-dimensional spatially resolved distributions of temperature and species concentration in high enthalpy flows. TDLAT combines infrared laser absorption spectroscopy with tomographic image reconstruction. The TDLAT technique has been implemented at the University of Virginia's Aerospace ...

Influence of precursor gases on the structure of plasma deposited amorphous hydrogenated carbon–nitrogen films

The atomic structure of amorphous hydrogenated carbon–nitrogen films was studied by electron energy loss spectroscopy ~EELS!. The films were deposited onto Si~100! substrates by rf plasma decomposition of CH4–NH3 and CH4–N2 mixtures, with substrates placed on the powered electrode of a diode glow-discharge system. The sp fraction of C and N atoms as a function of the nitrogen content in the fil...

A Compact Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectrometer to Monitor CO2 at 2.7 μm Wavelength in Hypersonic Flows

Since the beginning of the Mars planet exploration, the characterization of carbon dioxide hypersonic flows to simulate a spaceship's Mars atmosphere entry conditions has been an important issue. We have developed a Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectrometer with a new room-temperature operating antimony-based distributed feedback laser (DFB) diode laser to characterize the velocity, the tempe...

Quantum Hall Spin Diode.

Double layer two-dimensional electron systems at high perpendicular magnetic field are used to realize magnetic tunnel junctions in which the electrons at the Fermi level in the two layers have either parallel or antiparallel spin magnetizations. In the antiparallel case the tunnel junction, at low temperatures, behaves as a nearly ideal spin diode. At elevated temperatures the diode character ...
